GMA Network scores 5 wins in international FilmFest
LOS ANGELES, CALIF., USA –A Republic of the Philippines filmmaker has won five awards in the 2012 US International Film & Video Festival competition.
GMA Network, Quezon City, won Certificates for Creative Excellence in Television: Documentary Programs for “Front Row: Yaman sa Basura”; “Reel Time: Lusong”; and, “I-Witness: Gintong Putik (Mud Gold).” The three documentaries expose the horror of urban mining on a mountain of garbage, the dangers of compressor diving in thick mud in search of gold, and the tragedy of small children required to work as divers to support their family. The filmmaker also won Certificates in Television: TV News for “24 Oras (24 Hours): Lola Aurelia Story” and for “State of the Nation With Jessica Soho: Trahedya ni Sendong.
”The overall competition recognized competitors with 20 First Place Gold Camera statuettes, 28 Silver Screen Awards, 60 Certificates for Creative Excellence and four Student Awards. Twenty-three countries produced winners in this 42nd annual competition, which drew more than 1,100 participating entries from 29 countries.
