11 AWARDS GO TO 3 SOUTH AFRICAN COMPANIES
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA – Three Johannesburg, South Africa, companies, Urban Brew Studios, Curious Pictures and Mark Klein Productions, won 12 awards in the U.S. International Film And Video Festival.
Urban Brew Studios won seven awards for episodes from three reality programs.
The company won three Gold Camera First Place awards for editing, directing and reality programming for episodes of “The Cut,” a reality series featuring 16 contestants who tackle real world design challenges. It won two Second Place Silver Screen awards, in reality programming for “Khumbul’ Ekhaya,” which features a mother who abandoned her daughter having to confront the daughter, and in education for “Out of the Box,” a 45-minute creativity game show.
Its program “It’s for Life” for LCAT won Certificates of Creative Excellence for Episode 6 and Episode 9. The storyline places three young adults from diverse backgrounds together in the mystical and unfamiliar territory of Uenda, South Africa, for challenges such as learning and performing traditional dances or dealing with their emotions.
Curious Pictures took a Gold Camera award in education for an episode of “Tsha Tsha,” a drama series focusing on young people and dealing with love, sexuality and relationships in a world affected by HIV/AIDS. It also won a Silver Screen Second Place award in community development and a Certificate for Creative Excellence for other episodes of the show.
“Heartlines,” about a young man’s journey to redemption from a cruel past, won a Silver Screen in the entertainment-religion, ethics, and humanities category. “Heartlines” was produced in partnership with the Mass Media project, Nelson Mandela Foundation, the SABC and First National Bank as part of an initiative to use eight films, each dealing with a different value, to spur a national conversation.
Mark Klein Productions won a Certificate in the Corporate category for “Finsch Mine – Automine” on the new concept of underground mining.
The U.S. Film And Video Festival competition celebrated its 40th anniversary this year with winners from 23 countries. The festival granted 69 Gold Camera awards, 79 Second Place Silver Screen awards and 140 Certificates for Creative Excellence.
The Festival was founded in 1967 and is one of the world's leading international events devoted exclusively to recognition of outstanding Corporate, Documentary, Educational, Entertainment and Student productions.
