U.S. COMPANIES DOMINATE INTERNATIONAL FILM COMPETITION LOS ANGELES -- Thirteen/WNET New York has won four Gold and seven Silver awards in The U.S. International Film And Video Festival 2004 competition. ABC News won three Gold and two Silver awards. The History Channel captured two Gold and three Silver awards. All total, U.S. companies took home 37 of the 65 Gold awards and 37 of the 82 Silver awards given. This is the competition’s 37th year, and it received more than 1,500 entries from 27 countries. Thirteen/WNET received its Gold awards in Advertising, Cinematography, Education and Environmental Issues & Concerns. ABC captured its Golds for Documentary and Current Events. This year’s festival received more than 1,500 entries from 27 countries. In addition to winning Gold awards, five U.S. entries are among the seven nominated for the Grand Prix award. They are: “Freedom: A History of US Keb’Mo’ Promo,” by Thirteen/WNET, New York City; “Peter Jennings Reporting: I Have a Dream” by ABC News/P.J. Productions, New York; “Germany and the Secret Genocide” by Armenian Film Foundations, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; “Coral Reef Adventure” by MacGillivray Freeman Films, Laguna Beach, Calif., and “Empire of the Eye: The Magic of Illusion” by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. The other nominees are “Eye on Kenya: The Masai, Last of the Conservationists” by EMS Films, The Netherlands, and “Faces of Life,” from Gehrisch & Krack Filproductions AG, Frankfurt, Germany. The Best of Show will to be announced June 12 at ceremonies in Hollywood. Members of the International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers (IQ) will select the winner.
