ALABAMA 'TOLERANCE' FILM AMONG U.S. WINNERS AT FESTIVAL LOS ANGELES - "Mighty Times: The Legacy of Rosa Parks," a film produced to teach tolerance to school children, won a Gold Camera award and was a "Best of Festival" nominee at the 2003 U.S. International Film And Video Festival. The 40-minute film was produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala. In a commentary accompanying the entry, the center said the film was intended to present the birth of the Civil Rights Movement in the mid-1950's as a model for active citizenship and democratic participation. The festival received more than 1,500 entries from 28 countries. A total of 64 Gold Camera Awards and 92 Silver Screen Awards were given in 52 categories or sub-categories. Entries from the United States won 69 of the awards, which are to be presented June 6 during ceremonies in Manhattan Beach. The Southern Poverty Law Center film won in the Education-Grades 1-8 sub-category where two other entries also received Gold awards. Committee for Children, Seattle, won a Gold for "Second Step: A Violence Prevention Curriculum Video Lesson," and Thirteen/WNET New York won a Gold for "What's Up in the Environment?" GPN, Lincoln, Neb., won a Gold in the Professional sub-category as did Educational Productions, Beaverton, Ore. Silver awards in Education went to California Language Laboratories, Cupertino, Calif.; Thirteen/WNET New York; Intelecom, Pasadena, Calif.; Discovery Global Education Fund, Bethesda, Md.; Educational Productions, Beaverton, Ore., and Simmons Company, Atlanta. Other U.S. winners by category were: Advertising, Sales, Sales Promotion, Marketing: Gold Camera -- Mountain View Productions Ltd. of Atlanta; Silver Screen - Discovery Networks International, Bethesda, Md.; Burning Daylight Productions, Troy, Mich. Children's Programming: Gold -Jolee TV Corp., and Sesame Workshop, New York; Silver - Signature Communications, Huntingtown, Md. Community Cable: Gold won by Empty Warehouse Productions, Los Osos, Calif. Current Events, Special Events: Silver-Signature Communications, Huntingtown, Md. Documentary: ABC News in New York received Gold Camera awards for "ABC News Productions: 'History Undercover: Revenge" and "ABC News Special: Barbara Walters 9-11-02 Grief Special." The Independent Production Fund. Inc. of New York received a Gold for "Muslims. Productions related to events of Sept. 11, 2001, dominated the category. Also winning a Gold Camera for a Documentary was Denver Center Media for "Mile High: A Tale of Two Stadiums." The film featured interviews with musicians, sports figures, fans and promoters, exploring the legacy of Mile High Stadium as a Denver icon. The film also followed the construction of the new Invesco Field at Mile High.
