4 CALIF. COMPANIES WIN GOLDS IN INTERNATIONAL VIDEO FESTIVAL LOS ANGELES - TLC Entertainment's action mini-movie designed to make youngsters aware of the Bible's Ten Commandments has won a Gold Camera award in the 2003 U.S. International Film And Video Festival. The Studio City company was among the four California production companies to receive Gold Camera awards. Three others won Silver Screen awards. The TLC production, "Kid's Ten Commandments, The Not So Golden Calf" took honors in the Religion category. The competition received more than 1,500 entries from 28 countries. A total of 64 Gold Camera Awards and 92 Silver Screen Awards were given in 52 categories or sub-categories. Pederson Media Group of San Francisco won two Gold awards in the Specialty Productions category. It won for "Hell," a film done for Sun Microsystems, Santa Clara. The film humorously depicts problems faced daily by information technology managers. Pederson also won a Gold for "Break Away," a motivational video for the sales team at Synopsys in Mountain View. The awards were in Specialty Productions category. Empty Warehouse Productions, Los Osos, won a Gold for "TV Plus," a one-man show aimed at providing information and entertainment not available on network television. Silver Screen winners were: SUBPIX LLC, Santa Barbara, in Documentary, for "Nat Turner- A Troublesome Property." The film examined the Nat Turner slave rebellion of 1831 as an historical event. It was produced in association with KQED Public Television, San Francisco. The Simpsons, Los Angeles, in Entertainment, for "The Simpsons: How I Spent My Strummer Vacation." The production by Gracie Films, Culver City, has Homer at rock and roll fantasy camp where he is taught by the likes of Mick Jagger and Elvis Costello. California Language Laboratories, Cupertino, in Education, for an interactive DVD on citizenship for grades 1-8. The CD on U.S. history and government involved translations in 21 different languages. It was to prepare users for the INS examination. Intelecom Intelligent Communications, Pasadena, in Education, for "My Brother's Keeper," an episode of the Lifelines educational series designed to help students communicate in family literacy settings. Awards are to be presented Friday night (June 6) during ceremonies at the Manhattan Beach Marriott. The competition is in its 36th year and is recognized as one of the world's leading events for Business, Television, Documentary, Industrial, and Informational and Entertainment productions.
